SURGICAL SPERM RETRIEVAL

Surgical sperm retrieval may be a treatment option for men with an obstruction preventing sperm release or for those with non-obstructive azoospermia ( complete absence of sperm). In the first case it is possible to collect sperm directly from the epididymis by percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration ( PESA). In the second one, sperm can be collected directly from testes by performing a testicular biopsy ( TESA). This microscopic core of tissue is then prepared by biologists to release the developing sperm.
